ATKEY, Mel • bookwriter, lyricist, composer • HOME PAGE
Mel Atkey was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he was a theatre critic for a local newspaper, as well as on radio and TV. One of his musicals, The Grand Finale, almost starred James Doohan, STAR TREK’s “Scotty.” (The story of why this show didn’t go on is not for the easily frightened.) He finally did produce a musical on radio called Shikara. Stephen Schwartz said “Such talent is rarer than you know.”
